“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow (slot) the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14. Italics Coach Spooner
In the slot is a volleyball phrase describing a perfect pass to the setter, in system, allowing the chance for a great set leading to the best attack opportunity. Sloppy, lazy movement to the ball leading to wide passes all over the court, give you little chance to win the point. Much like making good choices in the Christian life, most players know how hard it is to make that narrow pass even though it’s the most basic element of volleyball. But with practice, and focusing on simple fundamentals, it often is the difference between success and failure on the court. The most disciplined players and successful teams strive to make that pass every time in a match.
“In the Slot” tradition will be interviews with former and current Grace Bible Volleyball players who are finding that life in Christ truly reflects making good choices and how volleyball helps in leading to a fulfilled life as a Christian.
Look for the interview next week with the only 4-Time NCCAA All-American in GBC history, Trish Apel Whittaker, as our inaugural “In the Slot” alumni.
