“Improving every match” according to Coach Spooner was key to the Lady Tigers first tournament of the season. Playing Northland University on Friday night the Tigers showed some great front row blocking with 9 total blocks, led by Joee Spooner’s 5. Tabitha Ryan had 9 kills and Naomi Kemper 3 aces. Each set found the Tigers improving losing 17-25; 18-25; 19-25. Saturday morning was more of a struggle against an experience Dayspring Bible College team, losing in the 5 sets. But down 11-3 in the 5th set, the Tigers roared back to tie at 12-12, then losing 13-15. Later that afternoon against a more veteran Moody team, the youthful Tigers saw what top level regional competition is losing in 3 sets. For Coach Spooner this was a great learning experience in so many ways. “This is the first time any of these players have ever played together or in positions they are used too. For us to play as well this early giving us a great chance to win against Dayspring, and playing well against Northland is exciting to see how far this team can grow this year.” The Tigers travel to Milwaukee for the Mount Mary tournament this weekend. Competition there will also include Findlandia University and Mount Mary, both teams NCAA Div. III.
