Wyoming, MI. – Over the weekend freshman setter Shelby Jamieson (Wayland HS; Wayland, MI) broke the single season assist record set last year by Laura Melton. Shelby now has 622 assists breaking the record of 614.
“Shelby is a very gifted athlete and as a team we’re very proud of her accomplishment. Of course she’d be the first to say it’s her teammates passing and hitting that give those assists but it’s still a credit to her coach-ability, hard work and distributing the ball in such a way for good balance attacks.” Coach Spooner in noting her accomplishment over the weekend.
Coach Spooner also noted the team tied last years win total of 10, the best in 14 years, over the weekend as well. “We are starting to have more confidence and finding ourselves better as a team unit playing together. It simply takes time with 6 freshman, losing Laura Melton for the year and 7 new players. There will still be more adversity but being a family means working through it for a common goal. And it’s not just winning on the court but in honoring God with a team unified.”
