The 2010 Volleyball schedule has been released with some of the strongest competition yet for the young Tigers. One of the earlier dates to note is September 1 in Lincoln, IL. “Lincoln Christian University is limited to the number of NCCAA Div. II teams because of their conference play. We are thrilled they worked it out so we can play in the regular season. This will give our team a real picture of where we want to be.” Coach Spooner, said. “Lincoln Christian has been National runner-up the last two years in the NCCAA Div. II. They have dominated our region now for over 14 years. Their standard of excellence and competitive drive is a great focal point motivating Tiger volleyball.”
Also scheduled are perennial powerhouses; Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Wisconsin; Kentucky Christian University and Moody Bible Institute. After a twelve year absence the Tigers travel Labor Day to the Faith Baptist Spike-fest tournament. This features two regional champions and two national teams from last year. “I love playing this tournament so early in the year. It lets us see some of the best teams in NCCAA Div. II and gives us more realistic team goals.” Coach Spooner noted.
Once again, as last year, the Tigers hope to receive an ACCA National Tournament bid. And the week after is the NCCAA Div. II National tournament in Florida. “We have to either win our region or place second to have a chance at an at-large bid. The regional favorite will be Lincoln Christian without question but after that I honestly believe we are going to be right in the thick of teams fighting for the chance to meet them in the Regional Finals.” Coach Spooner also pointed out, as last year, a more home court advantage in this year’s regional. “Great Lakes Christian will host and is less than an hour away. We like playing in their gym and hope the regional tournament being that close will give us an edge.”
