The Lady Tigers came up short against Cleary University yesterday evening losing 5-1. Despite the lopsided scoreboard the Tigers controlled much of the game. The possession battle was in he Tigers favor and they controlled most of the tempo having more shots, shots on frame and scoring opportunities than the Cougars. They just could not find the back of the net. The Cougars were able to play a counterattacking style of soccer successfully springing free their speedy striker, #17 Shelby Marsh, on occasion.
The Tigers lone goal came from Senior Laura Vinton (#5) who worked a fantastic combination play with #8 Katie Lathrup and was able to put a move on the Cougars keeper and then dribble around her to find the open net. The Tigers goal came when they were playing down with 10 players for a few minutes due to an injury.
Coach Rumenapp’s Brief thoughts on the game were,” I thought as a whole we played well. They caught us a few times on the counter and it took us too long to adjust. That being said I thought we controlled the game and executed our game plan outside that. We had some great opportunities that we simply could not capitalize on. That will come. We are a young team and I am very pleased with the build up and possession part of the game, we will continue to improve on the finishing aspect of the game. I also thought Jamie Hanna played outstanding. She is continuing to grow more comfortable playing in the middle of the pitch and with each day her confidence grows, so does her effectiveness.”
