Tigers Blanked by Cardinals

Andrews University traveled to Grand Rapids on Tuesday afternoon to play the Tigers in an early season battle.  The Cardinals came out strong in the first half, taking control early.  The second half was more evenly matched but in the end Andrews proved to be too much for the Tigers ousting them 5-0.  Shots on goal also favored the Cardinals 17-6.  Kerri Rudd made 10 saves in net for GBC while Martha Huizinga-Hegg added 2 saves.

Defensively the Tigers struggled with the Cardinal’s diagonal movements and awareness of the far stick.  On the offensive end there was an obvious breakdown in supportive play.  However, the Tigers are showing great improvement with ball possession and aggressive play.  Coach Heger commented, “Our opportunities to score today were there, yet unrealized.  Still it is a step in the right direction.”

The Tigers are hopeful that several more athletes will join the roster this week.  “At this point our focus is on development.  We will have an opportunity to show that development this weekend when we travel down to Kentucky and Ohio,” added Coach Vissia.
