The lady Tigers traveled to Aquinas College Tuesday afternoon to take on the lady Saints in a scrmmage. It was the first time the Tigers have played in a full side game as a whole unit and the first taste of collegiate play their 8 new freshman have seen. The Tigers played very well out of the gate matching the Saints possession in the first 10 minutes of the contest (the contest was played in 3, 30 minute periods instead of 2, 45 minute halves).
The Saints opened up scoring after 14 minutes and netted 2 more in quick succession to close out the first period of play. After regrouping during the break the lady tigers made some defensive adjustments and executed much better in their own half of the field. They allowed just 3 more goals the remainder of the contest.
“Outside one 10 minute stretch of the game Coach Teesdale and myself are very pleased with how the ladies played.” said coach Rumenapp. “Our ladies kept form very well throughout the match and did a very nice job executing things we have been working on in practice, especially on the defensive end. Aquinas is a very technically sound team and played consistent 2-touch ball. The saints also have over 30 players so heat and fatigue were less of an issue for them.”
The Lady Tigers open up league play this Friday at 11am against Ohio Christian at Velting Field.
