Laura Vinton Gives Grace First Lead

Minutes into the game Tuesday at Andrews University, Laura Vinton advanced the ball down the right side of the field into the Cardinals’ penalty area.  Vinton then launched a driven shot from near the end-line that beat the Andrews keeper. The score was her first goal of the season, and Grace’s second goal of the year.  The Lady Tigers found themselves in the lead for the first time ever.  It was a well deserved postion, as the women showed good teamwork, great hustle, and better play overall.  The lead was short-lived though, and the team was down 1-3 at the half.  Tina Mattias also had a shot-on-goal in the first frame.  The Tiger goalkeeper, Whitney Bunch had 16 saves in the match.  In only her second start between the posts, Bunch showed tremendous improvement and made some really tough saves.  Unable to secure the ball after a couple of the spectacular blocks, Bunch and the Lady Tigers found themselves down 1-6 at the match’s final whistle.  The score does not reflect the improvement the team has experienced over the run of the season, and the Lady Tigers will look to demonstrate that improved play when they take on a ranked opponent, Kentucky Christian University, Saturday at 10:00.
