Laura Yon was recently hired as the Grace Bible College Women’s Assistant Coach. Laura is originally from Fremont, Michigan where she graduated from high school and played four years of varsity soccer. Laura attended Montreat College in North Carolina where she was a four-year letter winner. After completing her degree from Montreat she was selected as a member of the USA Women’s Deaf Soccer Team. As a defensive starter, Laura helped lead her team to win a gold medal in the 2009 Deaf Olympics in Taipei, Taiwan.
“Laura brings with her an unusually broad background. The soccer experiences she has had are absolutely incredible. We are thrilled to have her as part of the Grace coaching staff,” commented Coach Vissia. “Laura is truly an amazing person who has persevered through trials that few others can comprehend. She continues to amaze me with how she conquers the challenges before her.”
Laura has been playing soccer at a high level for the past ten years. Along with this she has gained coaching experience by coaching the Fremont girls’ junior varsity team this past spring. “Laura does an excellent job interacting with the girls,” said Coach Heger. “Her life’s story certainly is an inspiring one. It really puts the important things of life into perspective.”
