Despite losing senior right wing Laura Vinton during warm-ups before the game, the Lady Tigers were able to defeat the Cardinals on Tuesday night. Freshman Debbie Pekel opened up the scoring for the Tigers during the 12th minute of the contest. She would net two more and add an assist before the contest would conclude. Autumn Befus (freshman) would pick up right where Debbie left contributing an assist early in the game and finishing 3 goals of her own, including one from 30+yards away. Also making it onto the score sheet were Destiny Banasihan, Lauren Olsen and Maggie McCann each with an assist.
“First of all I am proud of how we played considering we lost an important and loved player right before kickoff with Laura going down. As far as the game goes, we are starting to communicate better on the offensive end and continue to have a very high assist to goal ratio. That tells me we are creating goals by using our teammates and everyone is getting involved not just expecting one or two players to do it all.” Said Coach Rumenapp, “Our two young ladies up top (Autumn Befus and Debbie Pekel) are beginning to get more comfortable with each other and it is showing. They have 4 years to work together up top and the on field connection is only going to get better.”
The Lady Tigers were able to reach the .500 mark for the first time last night after defeating Andrews University 6-1. The Tigers (now 3-3) have won 2 games in a row and look to keep the momentum going Saturday at noon against Mount Mary at Velting Field.
