The Lady Tigers traveled across town to face the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University on Wednesday afternoon. The playing conditions were miserable as was the result of the match for GBC. From the very beginning of the game the Tigers struggled to maintain possession and mount any type of an attack. However, the Golden Eagles did not have the same kinds of problems scoring early and often. At half the scoreboard read 0-5 in favor of the home team. Unfortunately, the barrage continued in the second half as Cornerstone added 3 more goals making the final 0-8.
“Cornerstone is a very talented team and we knew that coming into today’s match,” commented Coach Vissia. “We were hoping to weather the storm and possible sneak one in.” The opportunity to “sneak one in” never came to fruition and the Golden Eagles outshot the Tigers 42-0. “We simply aren’t at that level yet. The hope is to continue to add players, add talent, and to field a team that has the ability to compete every day. We did have individuals who battled today and I’m proud of the girls for finishing strong.”
The road doesn’t get any easier for the Tigers as Marygrove College will pay a visit to GBC on Saturday in the last regular season match of the year. Saturday’s game will be the final home game of the season and begins at 1:00 pm. The team will then travel up to Dunbar,Wisconsin and face Northland International University in the first round of the regional tournament.
