Coach Yon Representing the U.S. and GBC Well
Coach Yon left for Ankara, Turkey on July 11 to meet up with the United States deaf women’s national soccer team. She is looking to defend the title as world champions and so far things have gone extremely well. The team trained for four days prior to their first match against rival Russia. The showdown of the two powerhouse teams took place on July 18th and ended with the U.S. edging the competition 1-0. Next up for the national team was Japan on July 20th. Although Japan managed to notch a goal the results still favored the U.S. with a 4-1 final. Just a few days later on July 22nd the U.S. was again in rare form, pounding the German squad 8-0. Poland will be the next opponent the U.S. faces on July 26th and the top two finishers of group play will advance to the final on July 28th. The U.S. seems to be headed for the finals once again and hoping to win their third gold.
