Wednesday afternoon was a bit of a struggle for the Grace Tigers losing to Bluffton University 6-0. The talented Bluffton team was not to be denied as they outshot the Tigers 38-0. Kerie Rudd played an excellent game in net making 32 saves and keeping the game interesting. The halftime score was 2-0 in favor of the away team but they raised their level of play in the second half adding 4 more unanswered goals.
“There isn’t a whole lot to say after a match like this,” said Coach Yon. “We struggled matching their speed, touch, and overall pace of the game. It isn’t that our girls played poorly, we were simply outmatched. We did see some decent individual play but it’s a difficult contest against a Division III team.” There were several positive outcomes from the afternoon game such as Cassie Hidalgo rejoining the team after several weeks away due to injury, quality play from sweeper Tina Mattias, and solid effort displayed in the back by Whitney Bunch.
The Lady Tigers will play the Finlandia Lions on Saturday at 1:00 at the friendly confines of Grace Bible College. In a tight match earlier in the year, the Tigers dropped a 1-0 decision to the Lions. The team is hoping for a different outcome on Saturday.
