On a day filled with athletics at Grace (Men’s and Women’s soccer along with a Volleyball tournament and Tae Kwon Do practice) the Lady Tigers celebrated the birthday of freshman Jamie Hanna with a sound victory over Mount Mary College.
The Lady Tigers continued their winning ways with a 10-1 victory over Mount Mary on the 18th birthday of freshman defender Jamie Hanna. Jamie opened up the scoring for the Tigers and would net 2 more late in the game to finish with the second hat trick of her rookie campaign. Grace took a 2-0 lead into the half and never looked back. Adding 8 more goals in the second the Tigers dominated every facet of the game. Autumn Befus found the back of the net 4 times while Debbie Pekel and Lauren Olsen added 2 goals and 1 respectively to round out the tally at 10 for the Tigers. Of the 1o goals 8 were assisted: Kerie Rudd (3), Debbie Pekel (2), Destiny Banasihan (2), Jessica Pegg (1).
“I thought we came out and played their game and their style of play in the first half.” Said Coach Rumenapp, “I was much more pleased with how we performed in the second. We re-focused on our game plan and were able to have some success. It was nice to see some of the ladies get involved offensively who are not typically able to and to see Jamie get a hat trick on her birthday was really special. I also thought Kerie Rudd was solid for us all game defensively, but offensively she was fantastic. Sometimes she makes it a difficult decision to start her back on defense the next game.”
The Tigers will travel to Ohio on Tuesday to take on Bluffton University in their quest to continue their current winning streak.
