Conversation With Coach Buchanan

Recently we sat down with Tiger’s Head Coach Dustin Buchanan for a few minutes for a question and answer session.  When asked about looking back on this season, and how he would you compare it to the 2010 season he responded, “The 2010 season was special because we were right there with any of the top ten in the NCCAA and were able to beat teams in the top five.  This season I think we were right outside of it but had a more difficult time with the top ranked teams.  We were successful on different levels than last year in.  Each year the team is special, you get some new faces in and with the guys we had in for this year had great attitudes which meshed well with the guys that have been here which made some of the tough times a bit easier.  The comradeship within this team is fantastic”. The next question asked was with such a great start to the season , 6-2, why do you think your side struggled after that?  Coach Buchanan answered “That’s a good question.  I think a couple of those games could have gone the other way but the reality is they did not.  I would have to say for one, the opposition was a bit tougher and with that we did well to create chances but failed finish.  When we did well to put ourselves in the position to score but didn’t, that turned potential positive results into negative ones.  That was are Achilles heel for us all season long.  That along with some defensive mistakes changed the outcome of games for us.  We needed the confidence will to push through some of the tough games but we were not able to find that during stretches of the season”.   As the off season for 2012 begins, give us your thoughts on that.  “First off, we have a solid group of guys here with character and willingness to work hard in the off season.  The freshman that will be sophomores will have a season under them and that will be important.  Colt Nieuwenhuis  and Asu really showed well during the season and especially at the ACCA Tournament with that boost going into next year is big for us.The juniors and seniors will be ready to put everything they have into their last year(s). Andrew Clark,  Joshua Armstrong, Ryan Snyder, and Carl Getty,  Nathan Porter, and John Rachoy will be  senior players that will need to step up.  Those two things along with the players we will be getting in could be a very good combination.  I think we are really close to doing something special in the NCCAA and that will take the hard work of the players here and the ones coming in to make an immediate impact for us”.
