PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Portfolio-based credit for prior experiential learning is awarded for (1) Professional Training and Schools, and (2) Life-Learning Papers. Credit is awarded only for documented learning, which ties the prior experience to the theories and data of the relevant academic field. A maximum of twenty-four (24) credits by Prior Experiential Learning may be earned.
Credit for prior experiential learning will be recorded on the transcript as “Prior Learning” with the subject area identified and Pass/Fail credit noted. The Pass/Fail does not affect your GPA, although credit is given towards graduation.
- Professional Schools and Training (PST)
The Professional Schools and Training section of your portfolio consists of technical and professional training complete for which you have documentation and have not received college credit. Transcripts from non-accredited professional schools go into this section. Professional or military training includes workshops, seminars, and training attended in connection with your job. A PST Worksheet must be filled out to receive credit
- Life Learning Papers
Credit may be earned by writing about your experiences in a life-learning paper. These papers must demonstrate that, while a student never had classes in a subject area, they have equivalent knowledge. Fulltime GBC faculty members assess these papers for credit. The credit awarded is contingent upon the depth and breadth of your experience and ability to articulate relevant college level learning outcomes.
