Some of the members of the 2012-13 Lady Tiger basketball squad have started playing in the women’s league at LifeQuest Ministries in Grand Rapids. LifeQuest is an inner city ministry that promotes healthy living and lifestyles, but most of all, preaches and promotes the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all who enter their doors.
The basketball is highly competitive and the league features several current and former highly decorated college players. The squad from Grace features all first-year players so they know coming in they are up against a steep challenge and they know that winning these games is not the primary focus.
Assistant Coach Lee Ash explained how the Grace girls happened to get into the league. “Some of the young ladies from Lifequest had been coming to our open gyms and they said there was an opening for a team to play. With all of our new players coming in, we wanted to take any opportunity we had to get the girls used to playing with each other. We may not win many games in this league, but the playing experience and the life experiences the girls will gain will prove to be valuable down the road.”
The girls will be playing on Tuesday nights for the next five weeks at the LifeQuest facility located at 1050 Fisk S.E. in Grand Rapids.
