Defense Shines in Exhibition Loss to Lake Superior State.

The young Grace Lady Tiger squad got put to an early test with an exhibition game at NCAA Division II Lake Superior State.  The Tigers struggled to make shots over the much taller Lakers, but the defense was solid, holding the home team to 32 first half points.  The Tiger offense got in gear for the first 10 minutes of the second half, playing at a 13-13 pace with the hosts, but the Lakers were just too much and ended up with a 73-31 victory.

Amy Leszinske (Ravenna) led the Lady Tigers with 10 points.  Abby Schultz (Calvary Schools of Holland) and Kim Kamp (Tri-Unity Christian) each added seven.  The Tigers out-rebounded the Lakers in the first half, but ended up losing the battle by a 43-37 count.   Meagan Beckwith and Marissa Pelletier led the rebounders with six each.

“This was a tough test for such a young team, but they handled it very well,” Coach Renzema said after the game.  “We did a lot of good things, especially on defense and we found out where we need to get better on offense.  We really struggled to get our shots off against their size, but we will learn from this and be better for it.”

The Lady Tigers officially start their season on November 9 when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on Mount Mary.
