The Lady Tigers got their trip to Texas off on the right foot with a hard fought 48-36 victory over Dallas Christian. The Tigers were far from sharp offensively, but made enough shots to gain a lead and made their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, but stayed on that 10 mark for over six minutes. Fortunately, the defense was solid and the lead was never relenquished. The offense was just good enough to get into the locker room with a 22-18 lead.
The second half defense opened up playing very well, not allowing a Dallas field goal for several minutes as the Lady Tigers opened up a double digit lead. The lead stayed in the five to 10 point range for most of the second half until late free throws gave the final margin of victory.
Abby Schultz (Calvary Schools of Holland) led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points. Marissa Pelletier (Calvin Christian) had 13 and Amy Leszinske (Ravenna)added seven. The Tigers enjoyed a 44-29 rebounding advantage. Marissa Pelletier also led in rebounding and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. Kerie Rudd (Battle Creek Pennfield) and Amy Leszinske each added nine boards.
The Lady Tigers will continue their Texas road trip with a tough game on Saturday at Arlington Baptist against the third-ranked Patriots.
