The first few minutes of the game looked like Grace would roll against Aquinas College. GBC jumped out to a 12-1 lead after the first couple of minutes and led 30-16 but some costly turnovers and some hot shooting by the Saints brought the game close. “We let them back in it just before the half and couldn’t close the deal.” said Coach Gary Bailey. “They are a very good team and we had our chances. White and Lierman had 55 of their 75 points tonight. They made seven 3′s with our guys right in their grill and from more than 20′. That was as good of a shooting performance as I have seen. I was proud of our effort tonight.”
Aquinas did not have an answer for Durham as he scored 32 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Paul Nelson was the only other Tiger in double figures with 10. Brandon Herlein had a team high 4 assists. The Tigers outrebounded Aquinas by a 41-29 margin. Both teams shot 47% from the field but Aquinas held a 37% -22% advantage from behind the arc. Aquinas also held a 17-7 advantage on free throw attemts.
Grace travels to Grayson, KY this weekend for the Super 8 Classic at Kentucky Christian University. Their first game is a match-up of last years national championship game.
