Tigers Sign John Oostema

Head Coach Gary Bailey is happy to announce the signing of John Oostema.  Oostema is a 6’0 point and/or two guard out of Grand Rapids Christian High School but transferring from Aquinas College (NAIA II).  Oostema will have two years of eligibility at GBC.

“We are thrilled to get a player of John’s ability here at Grace.  He will definitely help us at the 1 or 2 positions.  He can shoot the ball from anywhere and can flat jump out of the gym.  He can create his own shot and can distribute the ball very well,” said Bailey.  “We are even more thrilled to continue to get players with the character that John portrays.”

At GR Christian, John led his team in scoring for three straight years at 17 ppg.  He was a two time All-Conference player and was named to the All Area Dream Team.  John was also selected to the All-State team his senior year.  At Aquinas College, John played behind a couple of Junior and Senior guards but still saw good minutes as a Freshman and Sophomore.

John was asked about why he wanted to transfer.  ” My time at Aquinas was enjoyable but it wasn’t necessarily the right fit for me.  I chose Grace because Coach Bailey, his staff and the team were very welcoming and made me feel right at home the first time I met them.  I am looking forward to a new academic and athletic challenge at GBC and being a part of their winning program that is nationally known.
