The Tigers defeated crosstown rival Kuyper College tonight 74-55 and established a new school record for wins in a season with their eleventh straight victory to move their record to 22-8. The previous mark of 21 wins was set in 2003 and repeated in 2004.
Grace had a very strong defensive half holding the Cougars to just 22 points. Coach Gary Bailey emptied his bench early with all fourteen players playing at least seven minutes. “We are so deep and we just kept hitting them with waves of fresh bodies” said Coach Bailey. “They played us very well in the first ten minutes but we could see that our depth would be a big factor and it was.”
Allen Durham led Grace with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Paul Nelson scored 10 points as well as Brandon Clahassey who also had 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Cory Jamieson in his first game back from an ankle injury added 4 assists. GBC shot a dismal 36.5%from the floor and conected on 15 for 21 from the line.
The Tigers remained the #1 team in the country this week in the NCCAA II. They travel to Chicago to take on Moody on Saturday.
