The Tigers finished their regular season tonight with a 64-52 win over the USCAA II #3 ranked team, Andrews University. With the win, Grace closed out their season with a 25-7 mark, the most wins in the regular season for any Tiger team in the 49 year history of basketball at GBC. “I was really happy with our defense in the first half,” said Coach Gary Bailey. “To only give up 20 points to a squad that can do what they do is unbelievable. We came out of the locker room without the same energy in the second half. We did talk about handling pressure before the game. The pressure when you get to Regionals and Nationals can get to you sometimes and cause you to play cautious. I challenged the guys tonight before the game to let them know that we could break the previous win mark by winning the game. I thought they handled it well. It was fun for these guys to be a part of the winningest regular season in school history.”
Allen Durham led Grace with 23 points and 13 rebounds. No other Tiger hit double figures but ten players scored for GBC. Ryan Krombeen passed out 4 of the Tigers 13 assists. Grace shot 40% from the floor and 76% from the line.
The Tigers will have two days of practice before heading to Chicago on Thursday to open the Midwest Regional Tournament as the #1 seed. Grace will play Emmaus College out of Dubuque, IA on Thursday at 6:00pm CST.
