Tigers Open Region Tournament With Win Over Great Lakes

The Tigers of Grace Bible accomplished three goals in the opening round of the NCCAA II Midwest Regional Tournament Thursday night in Watertown, Wisconsin.  “Our first goal was to make sure we advanced to the next round of the tournament,” said Coach Gary Bailey.  “Secondly, we wanted to give our bench some quality minutes and save some wear and tear on our front line playeres.  And lastly, we wanted to stay free of any major injuries.”  In accomplishing those goals the Tigers played all 17 players and put 15 of them in the scoring column.  Senior Brandon Herlein led Grace with 17 points on 5 of 6 shooting from behind the arc.  Paul Nelson, Matt Kurtz, and Ryan Krombeen all hit double figures for the Tigers with 12, 10, and 10 respectively.  Kurtz also led the Tigers in rebounds with 7.  Grace held the Crusaders to 24.6% from the field for the game and outrebounded Great Lakes 62-34.

The Tigers will meet Kuyper College in the tourney semi-final on Friday night at 8 PM.  Kuyper was a big upset winner of the #4 seed, Northland International University.  The other semi-final will be played at 6 PM between Lincoln Christian University and the tourney host, Maranatha Baptist Bible College.
