Tigers Open NCCAA II Midwest Tip-off With Win

Cory Jamieson - 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists

Dubuque, Iowa:  The Tigers won their first game of the NCCAA II Tip-off Tournament with a 94-70 win over Lincoln Christian University.  “We gave the players six days off over the holidays,” said Coach Gary Bailey.  “I haven’t done that before but we played ten games in twenty-two days.  The guys needed some rest and to heal up some.  We were back in the gym on Monday and Tuesday and then were traveling Wednesday.  We showed some rust in the first half but we turned it on the second half and I was pleased with that.”  The Tigers played eleven players in the opening twenty minutes to get everyone back in the flow.  “Give Lincoln and Coach Clark credit,” said Bailey.  “They were ready to play and shot it well in the first half.  They were 7-14 from the arc.”

Allen Durham led all scorers with 31 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.  Matt Kurtz had sixteen points and Cory Jamieson scored 10 while dishing out 9 assists and pulling in 6 rebounds.  Ryan Krombeen scored 8 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.  All twelve players for Grace found the scoring column.

Grace led 45-40 at the half.  The Tigers held advantages in rebounds 39-26 and assists 32-20.  The Tigers shot 55% from the floor.

“We are a little banged up right now,” said Coach Bailey.  “Ryan Dame rolled his ankle early in the game and Aaron Schutte took a shot to the lip and has a pretty good gash.  Dan Dame also rolled his ankle in the game but was able to play a few minutes in the second half.”

The Tigers will face Moody Bible Institute at 2:00pm CST tomorrow.
