The 8th Annual Blue / Gold Game was played before a large crowd of Tiger fans waiting to get a glimpse of the 2012-13 basketball team. The fans are interested because most of the faces are new to the varsity squad. With only three returning seniors, the Tigers have tapped into last years jv squad and a new group of recruits to try and defend their 4th straight NCCAA national championship.
The Gold team took home the 81-71 victory in a well played game. The gold team was led by 6’7″ freshman BJ VanLoo’s 23 points and transfer point guard Nick Mascorro’s 18 points. Luke McKian, a 6’9″ post player out of Fremont, MI chipped in 9 points.
The Blue team was lead by Senior, Zach Schutte (6’5″) out of Calvin Christian HS. Also hitting double figures was Wayland guard Travis Rader (6’5″) with 10. Freshman guard Michael Miller added 9 points for the Blue.
The Gold team was lead to victory by Guest Coach Bill Krombeen. Dale Harpst, the Blue Team Guest Coach had his team clicking early but could not hold on for the victory.
“This is always a fun night,” said Coach Gary Bailey. The coaches get a chance to sit back and watch what the players are doing and see where we need to spend our practice times. The fans get a chance to be introduced to the new squad while enjoying some games, food, and prizes. Everyone seemed to have a great time tonight.”
After the game, the Tigers handed out and signed their poster schedules for the fans.
