Tigers Help Out At Basketball Camp In Ohio

Wooster, OH – Coach Gary Bailey, Ryan Dame and Allen Durham traveled to Ohio to help out at the Round Lake Basketball Camp which is put on by Rick Cooper, the voice of CCSN.

Coach Bailey and the guys put on a basketball clinic for the players and staff on Tuesday night and then ran stations and coached games during the week.  “This is one of those weeks that we really look forward to and Rick Cooper and Steve Palmer (The Deans) were very gracious to invite us down again and allow us to speak to the campers and be a part of what they are doing for missions with their camp,” said Bailey.

The staff has a selection (draft) on the first evening and then their teams will play games during the week to see who will play for the championship on Friday.  Allen Durham’s team made it to the finals but was upset by a team that they had already beaten earlier in the week.  Ryan Dame’s team finshed at 2-3 with one of those losses coming in sudden death overtime.

The focus of the camp is to help raise money for missions.  Church services were held each morning and evening with a lot of basketball in-between.  On Thursday night, a basketball “carnival” is held with games and prizes.  This year the night didn’t end until 2:00am.

Durham and Dame signed autographs on everything from shirts and basketballs to posters and pictures.  “This was really fun for my players too,” said Bailey.  “The kids treat them like basketball superstars and it gives my guys a platform to help the campers with basketball.  More importantly, the campers were able to listen as the players gave their testimonies.  It was fun to hear the campers ask some really tough questions and hear Ryan and Allen help them with their struggles.”

One of the highlights of the camp was watching Durham and Dame put on a dunking exhibition at the clinic on Tuesday night.  Ryan Dame jumped over four campers for a tenacious dunk to end the night.
