Holland, MI – The Tigers fell to Spring Arbor University (NAIA II) 68-62 in the opening round of the Russ DeVette/Holland Sentinel Tournament. The game remained close throughout with numerous lead changes and ties. Grace went from up two to down thirteen in a matter of a few minutes due to six straight trips with a turnover of forced shot. “The stretch where we had the turnovers really cost us this game,” said Coach Dan George. We had the momentum and was pushing the ball and causing them so match-up issues and we just made some bad decisions.”
Grace was led by freshman BJ VanLoo’s 17 points. Zach Schutte connected for 12 and Cameron Cramer added 11. Jake Blauwkamp led Grace with 5 rebounds. Nick Mascorro handed out a team high 5 assists.
The Tigers held the advantage in rebounds 34-31, assists 19-12, and shooting percentage 46%-43% but only connected on 3-6 free throws compared to 11-12 for the Cougars.
The Tigers will take on Covenant College in the consolation game on Saturday at 1:00pm. Hope will take on Spring Arbor in the championship game at 3:00pm
