TIGERS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPS!

Grace Bible defeated Valley Forge Christian College 74-72 in Springfield, Missouri Saturday night to win the NCCAA II National Championship for the second time in four years.  The Tigers broke several school records with the victory:

  1. A record 19 wins in a row (Grace is undefeated in 2009).
  2. A school record 30 wins in a season (their season ends at 30-8).
  3. Two national championships in four years by the same coaching staff and team member Paul Nelson.
  4. Most wins in school history by the current coaching staff of Gary Bailey, Kyle Bohl, Dan George, and John Bailey.

Allen Durham (Wyoming Park) was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and once again led the Tigers with 19 points and 10 rebounds, fighting through a split upper lip from an injury that occurred early in the game.

“Allen led us as he has all season and he well deserved the MVP award,” said Coach Gary Bailey, “but this was a total team effort from top to bottom.  The coaches are so proud of these young men, on and off the court.”
