The Tigers opened the opening round of the NCCAA II Midwest Tip-off Tournament with a 73-61 victory over Maranatha. Allen Durham led the scoring attack with 21 points and pulled down 10 boards. Brandon Herlein scored 14 and Zach Schutte 10. Cory Jamieson pulled down 7 rebounds and had a team high 5 assists.
Coach Gary Bailey played fifteen players in the first half but could not pull away from the Crusaders. “We know in a three day event you need to keep guys as fresh as possible so we wanted to get a lot of players minutes but Maranatha just kept coming at us and coming at us. Although I didn’t think we played our best ball tonight, Coach Ring had his guys ready to play and I think we may have underestimated them a little,” said Coach Gary Bailey. “They played with a lot more enthusiasm than we did.”
Grace shot 56.1% from the floor and 53% from the line. The Tigers out-rebounded Maranatha 38-29. The Tigers will face Moody at 2:00pm on Friday.
