Grace Wins Battle Of Midwest

Matt Kurtz

The Tigers hosted Kuyper College tonight and came away with an 83-50 victory over their Midwest rival.  The Cougars played the Tigers close early in the first half until GBC showed their depth and strength advancing the lead to 16 at the half.  The Tiger defense held Kuyper to only 22 first half points.  Four spectacular dunks by four different Tigers (Durham, R. Dame, D. Dame, Kurtz) ignited the crowd as the Tigers stepped up their play.  In the second half the Tigers led by as many as 38 while seventeen players entered the game with twelve showing up in the scoring column.

“I was extremely happy with our play tonight from player 1 to 17,” said Coach Bailey.  “This is how we like to play.  We only had two players go over twenty minutes (Durham 25, Jamieson 23) tonight and everyone contributed.  Kuyper played us very well early but I think the variety of what we can do confused them at times.  They are very big and very athletic.  If that group stays together, they will be a scary team to face as they gel a little more.”

Allen Durham led all scorers with 21 points and 12 rebounds.  Ryan Krombeen added 12, Matt Kurtz 11, and Dan Dame 10 for the Tigers.  Krombeen led Grace with 6 assists.

The Tigers shot 44% for the game while holding Kuyper to just 35%.  The Tigers also held a 54-38 advantage in rebounds.  GBC received 29 points from their bench with Kuyper getting 11.
