Durham Named NCCAA II National Player of the Year

Allen Durham

Allen Durham has achieved more than he ever thought possible at Grace but he added one more trophy to his trophy case .  Durham was named the NCCAA II “Maravich Award” winner.  This award is a combination award for athletic achievement as well as a character award.  This award is voted on by the coaches in the NCCAA II.

“This award means a lot to me,” said Durham.  “Mainly because it recognizes Christian character as well as basketball.  I have tried extremely hard in my career to display good character, sportsmanship, and integrity on and off the court.  It is nice to be recognized for that.”

The award is one of many that Durham received this season.  Besides breaking almost every record in the offensive and rebounding categories at GBC, Allen has won three National Championships, was named to the All-American Team three years in a row, and made numerous All-Tournament Teams.  “Allen has set the bar pretty high at Grace with his athletic ability,” says Coach Gary Bailey.  “I know his stats could have been even more impressive if he would have had to play more minutes.  But the reason he has been so successful here is because he is the perfect teammate.  He never asks for anything extra and is willing to sacrifice his on stats for the team.  He has always put the team first and that is the mark of a true champion here at Grace.”
