Last week, Allen Durham became Grace’s all-time rebounding leader. Tonight, Durham scored 31 points in a Tiger victory over Lincoln Christian University to become the Tigers all-time leader in points scored. Durham passes Terry Ericson who held the record since 1966 at 1,952 points. Durham now stands at 1,963 points. Ericsons record has stood for 44 years.
Earlier this season, Terry Ericson drove to Grand Rapids from Chicago to watch the Tigers play. Durham had a chance to meet and talk with Ericson. “It was really great to meet Mr. Ericson,” said Durham. He was really gracious about me approaching his record and the possibility of breaking it. He was really happy for me and the success that the teams have had. He spoke to the team after a game and everyone really enjoyed hearing his comments about the program. He had a great story about how he met his wife at Grace. I don’t think he will ever have to worry about his record being broken for points in a game at 71.”
“Allen Durham has been a great player to coach,” said Coach Gary Bailey. He does whatever is asked and has put his personal accomplishments aside for the sake of his team. There is no question he could score a lot more points if he wanted to but he understands team accomplishments over personal accomplishments. The coaching staff is really happy for Al and we hope he continues to enjoy his senior season.
