2009 Alumni Game An Instant Classic

The 2009 alumni game which featured 22 former Tiger greats, turned out to be a great contest.  The blue team fought back from as many as eighteen points down to get the win.  Kurt Postma (1994) hit for a team high 17 points.  Four other players hit double figures for the Blue as Kenny VanRyn (2006) and Jimmy Booth (2008) each had 16 and Rodney Velting (2002) and Aaron Huizinga (2004) hit for 13.  Kurt Postma also led the blue team with 11 rebounds.  Kenny VanRyn, Grace’s all-time assist leader led with 4 assists.  GBC’s President, Ken Kemper (1984), and Scott Renzema (2006) each had 5 points and Trent Kooienga (1996) hit for 4.

The White team put four players in double figures with Tom Vanderwaal (2006) led with 23 and Brandon Clahassey (2009) hit for 20.  Mike Boone (2008) had 12 and Jeff Forbes (2007) 11.  Clahassey led the team in rebounding with 9 and assists with 7.  Abe Poston (2001) and Pat McGillicuddey (1997) had 6 points and Corey Herr (1995), Jason Lewis (2005), and Vern Wilson (1998) each had 3 points.

The Blue team took the lead with less than two minutes to play as the lead changed hands four more times.  With the Blue team up two with 1.6 seconds to play, Mike Boone’s three point shot attempt rimmed out as time expired to give the Blue the win.  “Today was a great evening for GBC athletics” said men’s basketball Coach Gary Bailey.  “We watched as our first Hall of Fame class was inducted and as many former athletes and friends came back to the Aldrich Center to help us bring back some great memories.”
