Grace Bible College Names John Spooner as New Women’s Volleyball Coach
Grand Rapids, Michigan, December 12, 2008 - John Spooner has been named the new Women’s Volleyball coach for Grace Bible College. This appointment will take effect in the ’09 volleyball season. Rich Renzema, the Athletic Director had this to say: "We are so excited to have Coach Spooner as head coach of the Volleyball team. With the expertise that he brings to the table, our team will be very competitive."
John Spooner is no stranger to the world of coaching, having previously served as the volleyball coach from 1994 to 1996, winning the Mid-East regional tournament each year. During his time as coach, Grace served up five All-Americans, seven Academic All-Americans, four named to the National All-Tournament team, and fifteen voted to All-District Teams in the NCCAA Division II. In fact, it was his previous success that was one of the determining factors in his appointment to the position.
Coach Spooner believes that athletics are one of the best ways to expose and strengthen character and he is excited about the opportunity. "I want to see the tradition of love and respect for the sport of volleyball grow on campus,” John says; “It is great when everybody is playing together and fulfilling their roles. Tiger volleyball is going to become an exciting experience!"
