Gary BaileyHead CoachCoach Gary Bailey will begin his fourth season as Head Coach in the 2008-09 Season. Under Coach Bailey, the Tigers have been to the NCCAA II National Tournament in each of the last three seasons, and have advanced to the Elite Eight all three years. They were crowned National Champions in 2006. Over the last three seasons, the Tiger’s have a 36-12 record against NCCAA II teams nationally and a NCCAA II Regional record of 25-3. Coach Bailey has had the privilege over the last three years to coach 3 NCCAA Academic All-Americans, 12 NCCAA Midwest All-Region selections, 5 NCCAA All-Americans, 3 ACCA Academic All-Americans, 5 ACCA All-Americans and 3 players named to National All-Tournament Teams. In 2007, A GBC player received the David Terry Award from the ACCA for the first time. This award is given to the top player/student athlete in the ACCA. Bailey comes to Grace with a strong winning tradition. As a player at Wheelersburg High School in Southern Ohio, he helped the "Pirates" to a 64-4 record over four years. Upon graduation, he played at Jordan College where he helped the Suns to winning records from 1978-1982. Assistant Coach Dan George recruited and signed Gary as a scholarship athlete at Jordan. The two have remained friends since. While employed by Pineview Boys Home in Evart, MI, he took over the head coaching duties where he compiled a record of 153-31 over eight years. “We will continue to play the toughest schedule we can every year. Kyle BohlAssistant CoachCoach Bohl will be starting his third year as an assistant coach but is not new to the program. Coach Bohl graduated from Grace in 2004 after an impressive playing career as a "Tiger". Kyle won the "Scholar Athlete Award" in 2004, twice a winner of the "Frank Vanderlaan Excellence in Academics and Athletics" Award and a 2002 NCCAA All American selection. Before coming back to Grace, Kyle coached the girl’s varsity basketball team and was an assistant on the boy’s varsity team at Hillman High School. He served as acting A.D. at home athletic events. Coach Bohl holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Bachelor of Science Degree in Religious Studies and is currently the PE teacher at Creative Technologies Academy as well as teaching PE at GBC. "Kyle played such an important part of our defensive effort in the regional and national tournaments in 2005-06 and helped us bring home the championship. In 2006-07 GBC led the NCCAA II in defensive ppg, at 65.7, due to Kyle’s hard work. The guys really relate well to Kyle and he loves working on the defense with them. When he played at Grace, he showed extreme poise and confidence on both ends of the floor. He is teaching our teams to do the same and it is evident every season". |

Dan GeorgeAssistant CoachDan George will be starting his third year with the Tigers and has a unique connection with the program. Coach George was the Head Basketball Coach at Jordan College and recruited, signed, and coached our Coach Bailey in 1978 - 1982. The two have remained friends over the years and Bailey knew immediately who to turn to when he took over the helm in 2005. "Dan will bring a strong sense of leadership and great basketball knowledge to the program. He understands the game and will help this team achieve their goals", said Coach Bailey. Dan played his high school ball at Walton Central School in New York. He played his college basketball at Hartwick College under former University of Pittsburgh Coach Roy Chipman. Dan served as Athletic Director and Men's Basketball Coach at Jordan College and his teams there were nationally ranked. Dan received a Bachelor of Arts from Hartwick College in 1974 and his Masters Degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1980. Dan is an avid sportsman and enjoys hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Deb and children, Dani and Hunter. John BaileyAssistant CoachJohn Bailey, father of Head Coach Gary Bailey, brings years of coaching experience to the Tigers. Coach Bailey Sr. has coached many young athletes in the last 50 years. From coaching pee-wee and rocket basketball to the 2006 NCCAA national championship, John has contributed to the lives of many young basketball player. John stays in Michigan a large portion of the summer and helps in the development of each player. He attends the summer camps and open gyms and watches player development. "My father was the one who introduced me to basketball and coached me all the way to college. He wasn't always the one calling the shots from the sidelines but helped me with the other parts of the game at home and in the driveway. Even though he lives in Florida, it is great when he makes the games and can be a part of the team. The guys enjoy having him in the gym and he loves spending time with the team. He was an important part of the 2006 national championship. "It's fun to have Dad around helping out" said Coach Bailey. Coach Bailey, Sr. has been married to wife Candy for over 50 years and they have three children, Teresa, a deaf education teacher in Nashville, TN, Coach Bailey, and another daughter Melinda, a dental assistant, in Panama City, FL. |
